The thyroid gland is a small but extremely important gland located in the middle of the lower part of the neck. It consists of two lobes, right and left, which together resemble a butterfly in shape. This gland is a key part of the human endocrine system and, in cooperation with the central nervous and immune systems, plays an important role in the regulation of body metabolism.

The thyroid gland produces two main hormones, triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4), which affect the functioning of almost every cell in the body. Thyroid hormones regulate the work of the heart, brain, liver, kidneys and skin, and are key to maintaining a balanced metabolism. In order to successfully produce T3 and T4, the body needs the trace element iodine and the amino acid tyrosine, which serve as building blocks in the synthesis of these hormones.

Thyroid hormones increase the metabolic activity of tissues and participate in the regulation of numerous bodily functions, from the control of the reproductive system, through the response to stress and immune reactions, to the regulation of oxygen consumption, body temperature and blood pressure. Due to the comprehensive influence they have, any changes in the production of these hormones can cause significant disturbances in health.

Hormonal imbalance and symptoms

Hormonal imbalance occurs when the thyroid gland produces too much or too little hormone. Symptoms of hormonal imbalance can be very diverse and sometimes difficult to recognize, but the most common are:

  • fatigue and exhaustion
  • weight gain or loss for no apparent reason
  • feeling cold or warm
  • changes in the skin and hair (dryness, brittleness)
  • mood disorders, depression or anxiety
  • problems with concentration and memory
  • irregularities in the menstrual cycle in women
  • slow heart beat or fast heart beat

Prevalence of thyroid disease

Thyroid diseases are very common and represent one of the most common endocrine disorders. The prevalence of hypothyroidism, for example, varies in different populations, but it is estimated to affect between 3 and 10% of the adult population, and is higher in women and the elderly. Hyperthyroidism is somewhat less common, but can cause serious health complications if not treated in time. In addition to these conditions, autoimmune thyroid diseases are also common, such as the aforementioned Hashimoto's disease and Graves' disease, which lead to chronic disorders of hormone production.

In addition to autoimmune diseases, thyroid disorders include benign nodules and, less commonly, thyroid cancer. It is important to regularly monitor thyroid function in people at risk, especially women, the elderly, and those with a family history of thyroid disease.

Nutrients essential for thyroid health

Uz pravilnu prehranu, dodatci prehrani mogu značajno podržati zdravlje štitnjače i pomoći u održavanju hormonske ravnoteže. Almagea® Thyroideal+ je formulacija posebno osmišljena za optimalnu podršku funkcije štitnjače. Ova formulacija, uz vitamine B1, B3, B12, vitamin E, folic acid and copper contains carefully selected nutrients essential for the proper functioning of this gland, such as:

  • selenium, which contributes to the normal function of the thyroid gland, especially in the conversion of the T hormone4 u aktivni oblik T3,
  • vitamin B6 which helps regulate hormonal activity and
  • iodine, which is crucial for normal hormone production and normal thyroid function.

Ova kombinacija čini Almagea Thyroideal+ učinkovitim saveznikom zdrave štitnjače.
